Tonight, the City Council is scheduled to hear the proposed 2009-10 budget which includes cuts to various departments. Fire is still looking to make a deal to save those who received pink slips last week.

The budget includes a $5 million cut to Fire, putting over 50 firefighters at risk of losing their jobs. For Fire the formula is simple: agree to freeze salaries for a year and no firefighters are laid off. If not, the last day of work for those firefighters is this upcoming Friday.

Fire is holding a meeting prior to City Council to vote on the agreement.
