Jason Sample announces candidacy, support

Hidden in the weekend's arena chatter was the announcement of a new candidate for the District 2 council seat.

As reported by the Sacramento Bee, Jason Sample announced his candidacy and support from Councilmember Sandy Sheedy on Saturday.

A pastor of True Life Ministries Worship Center, Sample also announced he has the support of the Stationary Engineers Local 39 labor union.

Sample's entry, along with Rob Kerth, Kim Mack, Allen Warren, and Sondra Betancourt, brings the total number of candidates running to five.

SHRA to discuss redevelopment tonight

The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency is holding a public meetIng tonight at the SETA Building, 925 Del Paso Blvd.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide information on the process of redevelopment now that state law has abolished redevelopment agencies, the status of redevelopment projects already funded or in progress, and the future of redevelopment advisory committees, including those in North Sacramento and Del Paso Heights.

A second meeting will be held tomorrow night at Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, 3333 3rd Avenue.

Both meetings begin at 6pm.

Homicide suspect returns to scene of crime, arrested

The Sacramento Police Department has arrested 36-year-old Antoine Blessett for yesterday morning's murder of 20-year-old Christopher Sisoukchaleun. The arrest took place near the scene of the crime hours after the incident.

The incident took place yesterday morning at 2:00am as police responded to a call of a man who had been shot in the 1900 block of Del Paso Blvd, later discovered to be outside Sunland Liquor.  

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, Sisoukchaleun, had been shot multiple times in the upper body.  Medical personal transported Sisoukchaleun to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Witnesses provided a suspect vehicle description along with a license plate. The suspect, Blessett, was found to be the registered owner and was located later that day near the crime scene driving a different vehicle. He was taken into custody without incident.

Homicide Detectives believe the altercation ensued over the purchase of alcohol and was possibly gang related. 

Blessett’s mug shot is not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

Fatal shooting at Sunland Liquor

A shooting occurred early this morning at Sunland Liquor along Del Paso Blvd in North Sacramento leaving the victim deceased.

The incident occurred at 2:00am as the suspect and the victim got into an argument in front of the store. The suspect shot the victim multiple times in the upper body.

The victim, a male Asian in his early 20's, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The suspect fled in a White, 02' Ford F-150, License 8K45096. They are described as a male Black in his early 30's.

Neighborhood Watch Training at Kinney Police Facility

A Neighborhood Watch training will take place at the Kinney Police Facility on Wednesday, February 15 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

Jeannette Bonner, Neighborhood Watch Coordinator, will provide information outlining how to start and organize a neighborhood watch group, insight into how to be effective as a group, and the roles/responsibilities of captains and co-captains. 

As part of the training, your watch group will become part of the Sacramento Police Department (SPD), W.J. Kinney Police Facility Neighborhood Watch Group and the National Neighborhood Watch Institute.
