Twin Rivers police officer charged with assault

An officer with the Twin Rivers Police Department has been charged with four counts of misdemeanor assault.

In January 2012, the Sacramento Police Department, at the request of the Twin Rivers School Board, investigated possible criminal and administrative misconduct of Branche Smith, a police officer with the Twin Rivers Police Department.

At the conclusion of this investigation, the matter was forwarded to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office (D.A.) for review.

On June 21, 2012, the D.A.’s office determined that Branche Smith be charged with four counts of misdemeanor assault under color of authority.

Smith has voluntarily turned himself in.

Smith is currently on unpaid administrative leave with the Twin Rivers Police Department.
