There are some things that are so gross they’re unbelievable. This is one of those things.
The Sacramento Police Department arrested Ka Yang this morning for the murder of her 6-week-old daughter, Mirabelle Thao-Lo, from burning the child in a microwave oven.
On March 17, 2011, officers responded to the 800 block of Rood Avenue regarding the death of a baby girl. Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators also responded to the scene and a three month investigation ensued on the suspicious death, revealing the child sustained extensive thermal injuries which resulted in her death.
The unique nature of these injuries required in-depth medical analysis to determine how the burns occurred. Detectives consulted with several medical professionals, forensic specialists, and government agencies. The injuries that Mirabelle Thao-Lo suffered were consistent with those documented in only three other cases from Dayton, Ohio; New Kent County, Virginia; and Galveston, Texas. Each of those cases were reviewed and researched.
Based on the research and the autopsy results, detectives believe the injuries occurred as a result of the child being burned in a microwave oven. Detectives further believe that the child’s mother, Ka Yang, committed this crime.
Yang was arrested this morning without incident, booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and charged with homicide.
