Market Basket grocery store has closed.

The ongoing flow of Market Basket’s patrons received word the store went out of business from postings on the store’s windows and doors.

Some visitors, presumably owners of other stores, attempted to buy shelving and other equipment from the store.

It is unclear exactly why Market Basket decided to close, though a new Dollar General store is set to open a few blocks up the street.

The fate of the neighboring post office and fish store also remain unclear.

New tenants for the site have not been identified. Market Basket moved into what was previously a Safeway Supermarket.
