Struggle, friendship, believing in yourself, and future goals are among the themes students discuss with a mix of poetry, prose, and and a senior play this Friday, March 16 at Grant High School.
The showcase is part of a three-year project in cooperation with UC Davis that includes teacher training and collaboration, student spoken word/slam poetry events, and SAYS poet mentor educators. Poet mentor educators spend one day a week with students at Grant, Vista Nueva, and Pacific high schools, along with MLK, Jr. Tech Middle School working directly with them on writing projects.
The event begins at 5:40pm with Class Showcases in main campus classrooms. The event moves to the main auditorium with the Senior Play King Oedipus-Remix at 6:40pm, followed by the Slam Poetry Competition at 7:40pm.
