Due to projected budget shortfalls, trustees of the Twin Rivers Unified School District voted last night to close North Avenue Elementary in Del Paso Heights and Larchmont Elementary in North Highlands at the end of the school year in June.
The move comes shortly after the district closed another North Sacramento-area school, Harmon Johnson Elementary, due to its proximity to an underground natural gas storage facility and pipelines operated by PG&E. Those students will be relocated to Las Palmas School adjacent to Noralto Elementary, and Harmon Johnson will close over the break, which is odd given the sense of urgency held when discussing the move.
Trustees voted 5-2 to close North Avenue and Larchmont.
