Superintendent Frank Porter of the Twin Rivers Unified School District informed the Board of Trustees of his intent to retire on June 30, 2012. Porter made the announcement in the closed session portion of last night’s board meeting.
Porter’s thirty-three year career in education started with his role as a bus driver. He was a teacher in the Buckeye Unified School District in El Dorado County for ten years. He served in a variety of teaching and leadership roles in the Rio Linda Union School District for 20 years.
Porter was instrumental in the 2007 effort to merge four school districts – North Sacramento School District, Del Paso Heights School District, Rio Linda School District, and Grant Joint Union High School District – into a unified system for North Sacramento youth.
Responding to the Sacramento Bee, Twin Rivers spokeswoman Trinette Marquis said Porter’s retirement is not related to a confusing board meeting where a “vague resolution” pertaining to Porter and other administrators was pulled from the agenda.
