Derrell Roberts pushing for area elections in TRUSD seats

Sacramento News & Review writer Cosmo Garvin, who’s column “Bites” looks at political and social issues, decided to turn his attention on the controversy surrounding Twin Rivers Unified School District.

Last week, the Sacramento County Grand Jury released many findings just as the district celebrated its third anniversary.

Gavin discusses the Grand Jury’s findings and how the district “ended up with a weird hybrid election system where members are elected at large”, leaving some areas with lack of representation.

Turns out Derrell Roberts, Director of the Roberts Family Development Center, has started a petition to establish true area elections in the district. Should he gather 500 signatures, the board of the Sacramento County Office of Education will consider putting the question of changing the system on the 2012 ballot.
