Resident defends self against alleged intruders

Two burglary suspects were shot and killed by the occupant of the house they entered early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, May 4, 2014, at 12:18 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to a report of a residential burglary in progress in the 1000 block of Arcade Boulevard in Hagginwood.

Officers arrived on scene within two minutes to find two subjects deceased from fatal gunshot wounds. Sacramento Fire Department personnel arrived and declared both suspects deceased at the scene.

Both suspects were teenagers. One has been identified as Michael Sambrano (age 14 years-old) and the other as Steven Crider (16 years-old).

The preliminary investigation has revealed that an adult occupant of the home confronted the suspects inside the house and fired a firearm in self-defense.

Sacramento Police Homicide Detectives and Crimes Scene Investigators were called to the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The occupants were uninjured in the burglary and are cooperating with detectives.

Theft has been an issue over the past six months (11/03/2013 – 5/5/2014) in the general area. Over the last six months, within a half-mile radius of where Sunday’s incident took place, there have been*:

  • 3 cases of Burglary from Motor Vehicle
  • 3 cases of Robbery (Individual)
  • 1 case of Robbery (Commercial)
